Our Learning
In Year One we learn from the National Curriculum. We like to link all of our learning to our termly topics, click here to see our topic webs. In the Autumn our topics is Ourselves, looking at where we live and our environment. In the Spring we learn about Toys and Homes in the Past and in the Summer we have fun at The Seaside!
You can see some of our classroom displays below. You will also find photos of other Year One events. Your children might come home saying they have had a hard day on the building site. Relax - they have been extending their learning and language through role play areas such as a construction site, a factory and a garage!
|
We believe that children need hands on experiences so during the year we will be taking them to the North West Surrey Synagogue in Weybridge, The Lookout Discovery Centre in Bracknell and finding out about the work of the RNLI at the seaside. Below our some photos of our favourite experiences.
| Some Year One children learning how to dress the Torah scrolls at the Synagogue. |
We looked for shells on the beach during a trip to the seaside. |
| This man from the RNLI taught us about his job and how to be safe in the water. | We sketched the equipment in our local park then we used our drawings and investigations to make our own. |
| We went on a walk near school to learn about our local geography. | We learnt about different materials on a trip to the Lookout Discovery centre. |
| We enjoy raising money for our favourite charities with events like this cake sale. | Our grandparents might have played with these objects, which we learned about in our topic on toys. |
| We used a pulley to lift Mrs. Palmer off the ground during Science Week! |
We made Challah bread during a day of learning about Shabbat. |
| We enjoy playing in our role play areas! | |
