BASIC SKILLS QUALITY MARK

We were delighted this week to be awarded the Basic Skills Quality Mark for the fourth time. We were particularly applauded for the way that we continually assess our children and plan their future learning, ensuring that they make good to outstanding progress.

MUFTI DAY - Thursday 22nd October

Next Thursday is the first Mufti Day. The children can come in their own clothes. (Please remember that they will be going outside to play during the day and therefore need warm clothes and coats.) Every child is asked to bring a donation of £1 (so that HOPA can buy prizes for the Christmas Fair.)

Wellie Walk

Thank you to everyone who has sent in the Wellie Walk sponsor money. Next week is the last week to send the money in. Thank You.

Year 1

Thank you for all your help with walking the children to The Lye this morning - they made some super models of playground equipment! We have been investigating shapes - we have been using them to build a house for the 3 bears.

'When Goldilocks went to the Oaktree School. Oh, what did her blue eyes see?'

Lots of children retelling this familiar story in a variety of ways - putting pictures in the right order, acting out the story and adding speech bubbles to pictures.

The children are thinking how to be kind to each other as this is our focus value this month. Each classroom has a box for the children to put the names of their classmates in when they see them being kind - some boxes are overflowing!

HOMEWORK CHALLENGE

Maybe you could go on a shape hunt this weekend with your child - who can find the most of each shape? Or you could play l-spy with shapes.

ALL CHANGE

Thank you once again for your patience during the recent Royal visit to Hermitage School. We have discovered that it possible to get all of the children out through the front doors of the school if we have to.

We apologise to the parents who use the back gates that they were not open during the visit. Unfortunately the visit was delayed and due to security we could not open the gate at the end of the day. Thank You

New Classroom

Due to the rain the brick work is now only three quarters complete but it does mean our building is beginning to look like a real classroom. The rain also means that the grass seed on our trenches is also beginning to grow.

The roof will start going on next week. We are hoping to put in windows and doors during the half term. Once that work is complete we put in the paths.

A huge thank you to all the parents who asked about raising money to finish the classroom. One parent is considering a sponsored fund raising journey of his own. I am sure we will all support him if he does this. Other people had some very good ideas which we will pursue as soon as we complete the present planned work.

Thank you so much for all your support the new classroom will make a huge difference to all of the children in school.

INSET DAY—Friday 23rd October

After the wonderful demonstration by Kieran, the gymnast, who visited the school recently the teachers decided that they would like more training in gymnastics. Therefore our focus on the Inset Day is gymnastics. To help us with our training we still need

5 children (Year 1 and Year 2) dressed in their PE kits at 1.30— 3.00 pm on Friday 23rd October. Thank you to the 3 children who have already volunteered.

If your child would like to volunteer, please inform the school office.

Bears at Bedtime

The children really seemed to enjoy the 'Bears at Bedtime Event'. A huge thank you to all the parents who helped with the event. We would also like to thank the parents who waited in the hall and helped wrap up gifts and prizes for the Christmas Fair. It is amazing how much can be done in very little time.

Year 2

This week has been a busy week! We have had lots of fun using our Troublesome Triangle' to help us solve two step problems in Maths. We helped our friend Maisie find how many ways there were around a maze. In Literacy we were visited by our spider friend who left a note in his web on our doors. We acted out solutions to his problem.

Thank you to all the parents who visited us for Parent Consultation Evening, it was a pleasure to see you all and talk about your child's progress.

Homework Challenge

is similar to what we need.

Making colourful repeating patterns, using shapes.

'Having a go' at writing the initial sound of words.

Completing the tricky obstacle course in our Outdoor

Classroom!

Thinking about the sense of taste - trying different fruits

and describing how they taste.

Note to parents!

Help children to think of a 'special memory' - this could be a birthday party, holiday, special occasion, first achievements e.g. learning to ride trike.

Bring your special memory on Monday morning, ready to share with the class. You may want to bring a photograph/ object or you might just want to remember and tell us.

Homework challenge!
