Year 1This Week
What a busy week Year 1 has had! We have explored our senses and
learnt lots of interesting facts about plants — we know lots of plants
that we eat! Thank you very much for those of you who sent in fruit -
we made some tasty and healthy fruit salad with them.
Today we visited Wisley gardens and had a wonderful time using our
senses to discover the world of plants.
Next Week—Please can you help us?
On Friday 16th October we would like to take the children for a
walk to The Lye in St. John's. This will be a focus for some geography
work and design technology as we will be looking at the playground
equipment as well as hunting for road safety signs. So that we can
safely take the children we need to ask for help. We will be leaving
school soon after 9 o'clock and will be back by 11 o'clock. If you are
able to help please let either your child's teacher or your link
parent know. Many thanks.
HOMEWORK CHALLENGE
See how many plants are on your plate when you eat your lunch this

Harvest Day
Everyone did so well on the Wellie Walk. Thank you so much for all the
sponsorship money that you have sent in so far. All of the money will
go to purchase more reading books for the children. We spend at least
£2,000 on books every year and so your donations will make a big
difference. If you have not collected in your money yet please could
you do so as soon as possible so that we can purchase some badly
needed new books. Thank you
INSET DAY—Friday
23rd OctoberAfter the
wonderful demonstration by Kieran, the gymnast, who visited the school
recently the teachers decided that they would like more training in
gymnastics. Therefore our focus on the Inset Day is gymnastics. To
help us with our training we need:
8 children (Year 1 and Year 2) dressed in their PE kits at
1.30—3.00 pm on Friday 23rd October.
If your child would like to volunteer, please advise your child's
teacher or the school office.
PE KITS
Please ensure that all children have a track suit and waterproof
jacket on their PPA afternoon:
Year 1 Tuesday
Year 2 Wednesday
Reception Thursday
The children always go out to undertake sport's activities even in
the rain.
Mrs Aherne. PE Subject Leader.
Year 2It has been
science week in Year Two this week and we have had LOTS of fun! We
have been learning about what materials are and how they change. It
has been non stop, from making salt dough, melting butter and
chocolate to freezing water! We have helped to find the best lead for
Dazzle the dog by
testing and stretching different materials, observing
what happens to materials when they are heated or chilled and
predicting what will happen to the Ice Giant's treasure when left
in different places around the school. Thank you again for lending us
your bowls, spoons and jugs. Sorry if they got muddled, some of the
names must have washed off.
We are looking forward to seeing some of the children back at
school with their teddies for a relaxing evening tonight!
Next week we are beginning this half term's D.T. unit designing and
making an African shirt. If you have any old cotton sheets that you
are happy to donate for us to use and cut up we would be very
grateful!
Thank you very much for signing up for the parent consultation
evening. We are very much looking forward to meeting with you and
discussing your child's progress on Wednesday 14th or Monday 19th
October. The Year 2 Team
Year R
Yellow Hat - Communication, Language and Literacy
This week we have really enjoyed 'having a go' at writing! We have
thought carefully about the letters/ sounds that we know and have
tried very hard to write them.
The Outside Classroom
We have been watching the builders working on the new classroom. We
have been busy thinking about what we would like to construct when we
are outside. We have pretended to be 'architects', planning with the
chubby chalks on the playground. We have put our 'builder's hats on'
and used the big blocks to construct to the architects plans!
Parent Workshop
It was lovely to see so many of you at the 'Day in a Reception
Class' workshop this week. We hope that life at school is now a little
clearer.
Parent's Please Note!
Children are using the Outside Classroom every day. We are outside
in all weathers so please ensure your child has a warm, waterproof
coat to wear every day.
'Parent Helper' blank timetables will be in each classroom's window
from Monday. We would really appreciate any help you can offer!
On Monday we will be sending out two 'Booktime' books: 'Mr Big' by
Ed Vere and The Booktime Bok of Fantastic First Poems' ed. June
Crebbin. The children have enjoyed sharing the books with their
teachers, and will now be able to have fun reading them with you at
home. These books have been kindly provided by the Government and are
for you to keep!
PARENT HELPERS
REMINDER TO ALL PARENT HELPERS
