Friendship Friends

Well done to all the children who applied to be a friendship friend. I enjoyed reading why the children wished to become a friendship friend. Interviews have taken place and I am delighted to say that all of the children interviewed were successful in their application. The children have now received a letter inviting them to become a friendship friend and the first group will start work on Monday. Well done to all the children who applied.

Year 1

This week we have been reading lots of different poems and using our senses to help us write our own. We have been trying to guess what's inside a bag by touching, smelling and listening very carefully. Next week we might even get to use our sense of taste! We have heard some poems that rhyme and have even acted some of them out for the rest of our class!

In maths we have been measuring, measuring, measuring! We have measured things in the classroom, outside the classroom and even each other!

This month we are thinking about what makes us happy and what makes other people happy. Some of us have a special box in our classroom where we write down people's names who have made us happy. Some of the boxes are getting very full! So keep up the good work year 1!

We have been practising lots of handwriting in school and it would be really helpful if we could try and remember to finish the last 2 rows off at home.

Homework Challenge: Read a poem at home and maybe ask your mum or dad if they have a favourite poem.

We hope you have a HAPPY week!     Year One Team

GROUNDFORCE MORNING

Saturday 26th September

PLEASE HELP

This is a family event with lots for everyone to do. We need people to:

help prepare the ground for the children to plant bulbs on Harvest Day.

Tidy up the butterfly garden.

Weed the Grandparents Bank. We also need some heavier work done:

Laying the slabs that we have under the bike rack at the top of the field.

Make a new entrance to the butterfly garden.

Put up a barrier by the scooter area.

Please come along between 10 am and 1pm. Even half an hour is a big help. Thank You

Harvest Festival 9.00 am Wellie Walk 9.30am

Don't forget that next Friday is Harvest Celebration day. The children will need wellies and old gardening clothes for the day. The children will be planting bulbs later in the day. Please can you ensure that all donations of bulbs are in a plastic bag and labelled so that we know what the bulbs are so that we can prevent children with allergies touching them.

All parents are welcome to walk with their children on the Wellie Walk. Don't forget to get out your wellies and umbrellas. If you can stay and help with the planting you may even need gardening gloves, spades, trowels, etc. New parents please remember to complete a CRB form and return it to the school office if you wish to help in school. Thank You

Marrow Competition

Rosie Rawson won first prize with her marrow. Rosie's Marrow Diary included photos of the marrow at different stages of growing. Emma Crane also grew a huge marrow in her Grandad's garden.

Congratulations also go to everyone who took part. Everyone who brought in their marrow received a certificate.

Year 2

Once upon a time, in a land far away, there were three hard-working classes, Fox, Owl and Rabbit. One ordinary sunny Friday afternoon, an extraordinary thing happened...

'Watch out!' cried Miss Hogg. 'Don't step any closer to the _ ______', proclaimed Mrs. Bladon. 'It's OK',

soothed Mrs. Sheppard. 'I've got the ____________'

Meanwhile Mrs. Alder was on Lilly the Bus. 'Oh no!', she sighed, 'I can't find the_______________'.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, Mrs. Jones appeared with the_______________________.

And that's how the oak tree got its ______________

Guess what! This week we've been writing stories. Who can think of the most interesting ways to fill in the blanks? There will be a sticker for the best ideas in each class.

We have also been invaded by money monsters who feast on 10p, 20p and 50p coins. We've even started to think about how many pence there are in amounts more than £1!

Next week we are continuing to write stories based on African animals and learning about Harvest Festivals around the world.

Thank you very much to Mrs Loughman and Mrs Meacock-Fletcher who will be sharing the role of link mum for Fox Class. Unfortunately we are still looking for Rabbit and Owl link mums. If you are interested in becoming a link mum for your child's class then please contact Mrs Bladon or Mrs Sheppard. Thank you.

HOMEWORK CHALLENGE

Find out how many different countries your breakfast comes from. You might be surprised! Are any of the ingredients 'Fair Trade"?

Reception

A Day in the Classroom Wednesday 7th October at 7 pm

On Wednesday 7th October there will be an opportunity to find out more about the Foundation Stage curriculum when we will be holding a curriculum meeting which we have called 'A Day in the Classroom'.

The Foundation Team will then split into different rooms and present short, hands on sessions, covering some of the curriculum areas. We will be explaining some of the activities the children will be experiencing and how parents can help by playing fun games. There will be an opportunity for everyone to visit all the different areas.
