HARVEST DAY - Friday 2nd October

Due to the overwhelming support for our Harvest Festival we hold our harvest celebration outside displaying garden produce. This means that everyone will be able to come including toddlers, Grandparents etc. If children could bring in bulbs for the celebration we would be very grateful. The children will be planting the bulbs later in the day. Year 2 children will be holding a collection at the end of our celebration for 'Seeds for Africa'

After the Festival we will stay on the field for our Annual Wellie Walk. If you would like to stay for the walk you will be very welcome. There is a sponsor form in the school bag today. It is your generous support over the last few years that has enabled us to set up the Home Reading Library, replace group readers, up date the non-fiction library. This year we are again looking to purchase more guided reading books and home reading books.

For the rest of the day the children will be working on the science unit 'Green Plants and Living Things' and we would appreciate any help that parents can give planting or supporting in class.

Children can wear old gardening clothes and wellies for the day.

Thank You

Reception

We are. so pleased with how well the children are coming into school in the mornings! This week we have been focusing on the sense of touch: exploring different objects on the investigation table and selecting materials to make collages. We have been learning how to count carefully and the children have enjoyed their phonics sessions. Next week we shall be covering the following sounds: n c k e o r. Please help your child to search for items at home that begin with these sounds and they can bring them in for the class Sound Table. Please find a new, clear (!) copy of the sounds sheet in your child's book bag and discard your previous copy as we have altered the way in which we will be teaching the 'x' sound. Thank you for your understanding.

Reading

We have enjoyed hearing the children's stories that they have been telling using the pictures in their books. For the moment, your child will be bringing home a book they have worked with in guided reading. We will keep you informed of the reading system as the term progresses. Please write the title of the book in the Reading Diary along with the date and a brief comment as to how your child managed or enjoyed the book. We will write a comment on reading progress once a month.

Starting next week, the children will also be bringing home a Home Library book once a week so that you can enjoy reading it to them at bedtime! There is no need to record the titles of these books. Please ensure that the Home Library book is always brought to school in your child's book bag as they will not be able to select a new one until the previous book is returned.

Just for your information, this is the staffing for

the afternoon sessions this term:

Monday: Mrs Af zal supported by Mrs Deamer

Tuesday: Mrs Odam supported by Mrs Taylor

Wednesday: Mrs Afzal supported by Mrs Taylor

Homework Challenge

Please work with your child to help them to recognise their name as they need to be able to do this when selecting activities on the 'Activity Board'. The next step would be for your child to write their first name and then surname.

Morrisons LET'S GROW Vouchers

The school is collecting Morrisons LET'S GROW vouchers. From 7th September until 1st November vouchers can be collected at Morrisons stores.

There are three easy ways to collect Let's Grow Vouchers:

Spend £10 and you will receive one voucher for every £10 you spend in store at your local Morrisons;

Some special products at your local Morrisons have extra vouchers printed on the packaging that you can cut out and collect;

Look out for in store promotions that offer you more vouchers on certain products. Just keep any receipts that have a Let's Grow code on them and hand them into school.

The school will be able to redeem vouchers for free gardening equipment, everything from seeds and spades, to composting bins and planters.

The scheme aims to get children excited about food and not just the eating part! They'll be given the inspiration to follow a healthier lifestyle by learning everything they need to grow fruit and vegetables in the school environment.

Disability Questionnaire

It is time again for our annual disability questionnaire. Please complete as appropriate and return to the school. Thank You

GROUNDFORCE MORNING

Saturday 26th September

This is a family event with lots to do for everyone. We need people to help prepare the ground for the children to plant bulbs on Harvest Day and general weeding.

We also need a few people to help with some DIY such as slab laying and bus painting

Please come along between 10 am and 1pm. Even half an hour is a big help. Thank You

SPORTS 4 ALL

We were delighted this week when the children undertook a circuit of activities with SPORTS 4 ALL.

The teachers also found out just how fit they were.

AND THEN THE EXPERT SHOWED US ALL HOW TO DO IT! Kieran Behan was such an inspiration to us all.

HOPA ASM

Thank you so much to everyone who attended the HOPA ASM. We are delighted that we once again have a full committee to plan and organise all the great HOPA events. HOPA always provide everyone with such exciting events and the school with much needed funds.

Year 2

This week we have been learning all about Africa. We have made African beads out of pasta and made African huts out of clay. In maths we have continued looking at tens and units and can now partition three-digit numbers! In Literacy we have been following instructions to do all sorts of things and even wrote some instructions for other people to follow.

Next week we will be writing stories about the adventures of an African animal using lots of describing words and in maths we will be looking at money. As harvest time approaches we are going to be thinking about why we celebrate harvest and how it is celebrated around the world.

Homework Challenge

When you are out shopping with mummy or daddy see if you can work out how much they need to pay or maybe how much change they will get.

Year 1

Wow! We are certainly fit. . . well the children are! We are not so sure about the adults! The "Sports 4 All" event was very successful, though we will really only know how successful when your kind donations of sponsorship money come in! Please send in yours as soon as you can.

We have some "clones" of your children around the school! All of them painted, with great attention to detail, by the children. Watch out for them if you come in.

All the children have been trying so hard with learning spellings for the week - keep it up! Please try to remember that your child needs their handwriting book in their book bag everyday as we sometimes need to move our handwriting lessons to fit around other exciting events. The same applies for PE Bags! Please send them in on a Monday and we will get them back to you, for washing, on Fridays.

We hope you have a HAPPY weekend and week! Year One Team
