Year 1
Year 1 have been learning all about how much things hold in mils and litres both indoors and outside this week. Ask your child to tell you the special maths word that explains how much things hold! We have also written super sentences describing the sea and, magically, changed them into poems! You'll be able to see these if you come to Celebration Evening on Monday 6th July 3.30 to 6.30 pm. If you are able to come along to celebrate your child's work in Year 1. you will also be able to meet their new teacher and visit their new classroom. The Year One children will be performing with the Boomwhackers at 5.30 pm. Each class has learnt a different tune to play and any Year 1 children in school around about that time will be playing! Don't worry if you can't make it for 5.30 pm, there will still be plenty of things to see and celebrate. Year One Geography visit to Littlehampton Next Thursday, 9th July we are going to Littlehampton. We have a very full day drawing, photographing and comparing the seaside to Woking. We will also have a Water Safety talk from the Life Guards and a visit to the Look and Sea Centre. If the weather forecast is still for a hot and sunny day, then don't forget the sun-cream and hat and if possible a red T-shirt! Also don't forget the bucket and spade (named please!) if your child has one. We will be taking extra drinks for the children so they will only need to carry one in their lunch pack. Looking forward to seeing you all on Monday evening. The Year One Team

Year 2
A plea firstly, to ask it all children can bring in a named cap or hat for playtime. The hot weather is lovely, but the children do need a cap for protection. On Monday it is Open Evening and you are most welcome to visit the classrooms for a look around. Some work will be on display but not their exercise books, although of course you can take the opportunity to look at your own child's and let them share their work with you. If you are at the Open Evening at either 4 o'clock or 0 o'clock the Year Two children will be singing one song together. Next week is feeling Good week and we have lots of different and exciting activities for the children to experience and learn through. On Tuesday we are having a Pillow and Book day. Please can each child bring in from home a pillow and their favourite book (named). On Wednesday we are going for a feeling Good walk We will be visiting the Lye. Activities include having a picnic with our fruit with a time for relaxation, going on a power/nature walk and having fun on the apparatus. For this walk to take place we do need some parent volunteers to walk with us. We will be leaving at 9.10 am and returning to school by 10.30 am. If you are able to help, please see your child's class teacher as soon as possible. On Thursday the children will participate in different activities in each classroom. One classroom will be a Health Farm and the children will participate in a circuit of activities to help them feel good. As well as quiet meditation, exercise and a chill out area, there will be also a foot spa when the children can soak their feet in bubble bath and a massage area when they can massage their own hands with hand lotion. If for any reason you do not want your child to participate because of allergies, please see your child's class teacher as soon as possible. In another class we will be making a fruit salad to eat on the field at the end of the day. Please could each child bring one piece of fruit to be used in the salad. On Friday, we will be feeling good by doing something for others. Please can each child bring in an old book or toy that they no longer want. These will be put into a Year Two sale for a charity of the children's choice. Can they please also bring in 20p to spend at the sale. Please do also check that your child's clothes are clearly named as it is very easy for them to become lost on a hot day when everyone takes their jumpers off. We are very short of helpers in Year Two. Please see your child's teacher if you are able to help. Thank you for your support. The Year Two Team. Homework Challenge How many words can you make out of the words feeling good. There will be a prize for the person who has the most words in their list. SPORTS DAY - Thursday 16th July Sports day starts at V.30 am. We have the event at this time to ensure that the children are not out in the sun at the hottest time of the day (we hope the sun u ill shine). Please ensure that your child has a sun hat. a named bottle of water and is liberally coated with sun cream if the weather is hot. There are three parts to the event. In the first part the children undertake short competitive games in teams. Every time a game is played the winning team scores I point. The teams are organised to ensure fairness for all. When the children have completed all the games the scores are counted. Please can you contact your Link Parent to offer to help for 10 minutes when the children arc undertaking this part of the morning to enable all parents to watch their children for most of the time The children then move to the running track. The children will sit at the far side of the track and we ask parents to stand on the side of the track nearest to the school. The children run in their class groups and the 1st. 2nd. 3rd scores are added to the first event scores. The children travel very fast through the finish line and to prevent accidents no one is allowed to stand in front of the orange netting. At the end of this event the scores arc given and the cup presented to the winning team. The children arc then free to enjoy a picnic with family or friends.
