New Teacher
Some of you may have met our new teacher at the new children's story session
this week. Many of you will already know our new teacher Miss Littlefield
because she undertook her 2nd Teacher Training Placement with us last year in
Woodpecker.
We were delighted when Miss Littlefield applied for a position on our
Foundation Team and at interview she proved herself to be just as outstanding
as she had been on her practice.
We are looking forward to welcoming Miss Littlefield to our team in
September.
We would also like to congratulate Mrs Puzas, who is at present teaching in
Hedgehog class, on her promotion to the leadership team of a school in
Wokingham.
On Tuesday afternoon six lucky
Year 1 girls went to Sythwood School for a Summer Maths Activity Afternoon.
There were 30 girls altogether from schools in the local area. The girls
had great fun playing lots of exciting games. The games included; guessing
how many cups of water would fill up a larger container, throwing beanbags into numbered buckets to try and score the
number 20 and adding three numbers together to reach a target number. The girls got the chance to work in groups with girls from different schools and make some new friends. I would like to say thank you to Mrs Randazzo and Mrs Penman for their help. Miss Hogg

Black ScooterPlease can you
check that your child has his/her own scooter as one has gone missing
belonging to David Stacey. His name written underneath and the handlebars are
set quite high and have black foam. It went missing on Monday when it was left
hanging on the fence. If you find you have it please return it to the fence at
the side of school. Thank you Missing Reversible Fleece
Ellie Kitkat, Robin Class, has lost her Oaktree School coat. It is labelled
with her name and also Holly Kitkat's name. Please check your child's coat.
Thank you, Tina Kitkat

The Oaktree School 5-a-side
Football TournamentWhat an exciting
time at the 5 a-side-football Tournament on Saturday. All of the players were
such good sports even when conditions under foot made for some interesting
playing.
In the final Woodpecker played Magpies. Magpies were first to score.
Woodpeckers then appeared to score but the keen eyes of our referee Mr Johns
spotted that the ball came through the side of the net. Therefore the goal was
disallowed. At full time the score remained 1-0 and Magpies were declared the
winner. Well Done everyone.
The children all enjoyed the afternoon playing on the huge bouncy slide and
small castle. Everyone enjoyed the BBQ especially the meat purchased from
Roberts the butchers.
NOW it is over to you. Please can you collect in the money over this
weekend that you have raised in sponsorship. We make no money on the actual
event but the money raised on sponsorship will go towards our new classroom
which will benefit all of our children. PLEASE CAN WE HAVE YOUR SPONSORSHIP
FORMS BACK BY June 26th at the latest. Thank You.
New Eco Classroom
We have now prepared the area for redevelopment and ordered the timber frame
for the building. We have decided to build using a timber frame because this
is the most sustainable building material we can use and will give us the
highest installation.
During the next two weeks we will receive quotes from local builders. We
will then interview the builders and make an appointment. Work is planned to
start when we break up for the holiday.

Year 1
Our Island week has gone swimmingly! Having established what an island was the
children have been very fired up about their learning. Woodpeckers have learnt
how to count and sing in Irish and perform Riverdance. Ladybirds have learnt a
traditional Manx folk dance, how to say hello and goodbye and found out why
Manx cats have no tails! Magpies have learnt the Japanese national anthem,
counted and greeted one another in Japanese and performed a traditional fan
dance.
On Friday the hall turned into a departure lounge and the children set off
to visit other countries. Bach class provided tour guides, souvenir sellers,
pilots and stewards to make everyone comfortable on their journey. The
children sampled local culture, were entertained by dances and songs,
purchased keepsakes and made something that represented their country.

Year 2
This week was International Week and each class was a different country. Today
the children chose another country to visit as well as representing their own
country, acting as tour operators as well as entertaining their visitors with
food, dancing and singing. What fun!!. Thank you to all the parents who helped
their children to research their class's country at home. This proved to be
very useful and gave us lots of information to start the week.
Tennis starts next week, just before Wimbledon, and everyone is
looking forward to this very much. It should be exciting to start something
new and hopefully the curriculum will be enjoyed by all the children.
Please can you start collecting cereal boxes for our Design and Technology
project. These can be sent into school anytime over the next two weeks.
Please do also check that your child's clothes are clearly named as it is
very easy for them to become lost on a hot day when everyone takes their
jumpers off.
We are very short of helpers in Year Two. Please see your child's teacher
if you are able to help. Thank you for your support. The Year Two Team.
Homework Challenge
In preparation for the children writing a newspaper article, please could
they have a look at different newspaper articles at home. Can you draw their
attention to the way the heading is written to draw the reader's attention
together with how the article is often written in columns and how it is
written in the third person.
INTERNATIONAL WEEKAfter a week of preparation the islands were ready for
their visitors. On Friday the whole school bought tickets, boarded planes and
went to visit different countries. Everyone learnt so much and had a great
time. More photographs will be on display in the Office Reception area next
week.
