Car Park

We know that the paths around the school can be busy and slow but please do not walk through the car park.

We also know that you will check that the gates are closed and that no cars have people in them and will therefore not be moving before you go across the car park. UNFORTUNATELY your child does not realise that you are doing all this checking and next time they are walking that way they will run across the car park believing that this is a safe route.

I know it takes longer to walk along the path but please, please keep our children safe by not walking across the car park.

Flower Power Day - Friday 5th June

During Flower Power Day we will be focusing upon science when the children explore green plants.

We are asking the children if they can bring in plants (labelled with their own name and the name of the plant) to put in the garden. On Friday they need to wear old clothes and bring named wellies in a named carrier bag.

We need help at the beginning of the week digging over the bedding areas. If you can help please let your class teacher know. We also need help with planting on the day. Please complete the slip attached if you can help either on the day or during the week.

If you are helping please can you bring any tools that you think may be helpful. THANKS

5-a-side Football Tournament

Saturday 6th June 2009 2.00 pm—5.00 pm

There seem to be lots of budding football stars out there. Thank you to everyone who has expressed an interest in playing for their child's class team. You will be contacted after Half Term. Some classes still have a few places in their teams so would appreciate your help. (I have heard rumours that there are high transfer fees being offered to players to change classes.)

As mentioned in the last newsletter we have planned lots of fun activities for the children as well as a BBQ.

To cover the cost of the children's activities the children will need to purchase an 'ACTIVITY PASS' for £2 each. This will enable the child to take part in all of the activities as many times as they like, during the afternoon, without any money passing hands.

You can also feed your family at the BBQ at a very reasonable price.

If you would like to purchase a child's pass please complete the form below. Please purchase your pass now to enable us to ensure that there will be sufficient activities to ensure all of the children have fun.

This event is organised by the school Publicity and Promotions Group. This group of governors, school staff and parents work hard promoting the school to the community. They also like to organise fun events in which parents and children can come to school and enjoy the facilities. If anyone can help please complete the attached form.

Year 1

Our week started with our classes going back in time over a hundred years for a trip to the seaside. Sally Russell from Chertsey Museum had children trying on old-fashioned bathing suits and twirling parasols. She told them about a penny lick - ask your child to tell you about this! As a whole class we pretended to pack a case, climb on board a steam train and head off for a day at the seaside. Whilst we were there we saw a Punch and Judy show, paddled and made sandcastles before heading back home.

In maths we found out about fractions the fun way - we

cut up cakes and chocolate into halves and quarters......

and then ate them! We found that 2 quarters were the same as one half. Would you rather have a half or a quarter of a cake?

When we come back after half term we will be spending a lot of time learning outside following in Darwin's footsteps, so please can your child have a coat and wellies in school every day?

HOMEWORK CHALLENGE: Can you find out how many foods we eat which come from plants? Bring in one of your favourite plant foods e.g. cucumber, carrot etc.

Year 2

Well we are now into the summer and hopefully the weather will be good over half term so that we can all now have a relaxing break in the sun.

The first week back is called Darwin week and in Year Two we will be focusing on Science all week. The week ends in Flower Power Day when we will be thinking about living things and covering our Variation topic. Reading that week will be done during these Science lessons. There will therefore not be group reading or diary entries, but service will resume as normal the week after.

We have decided to change the curriculum for PE during the next half term. We will be focusing on learning to play tennis over the next five weeks which promises to be very exciting. Please can you check your child's PE clothes during half term. Do their trainers still fit? Have they got shorts, tracksuit bottoms and T shirt all named? There is no need for any other equipment as we have been given racquets, balls and nets. Maybe you will see your child at Wimbledon next!

Please do also check that your child's clothes are clearly named as it is very easy for them to become lost on a hot day when everyone takes their jumpers off.

We are very short of helpers in Year Two. Please see your child's teacher if you are able to help. Thank you for your support.

The Year Two Team. Homework Challenge

Can you practise your spellings for a test on the first day back. There will be an assortment of spellings from words that you have already learnt over the last half term. Spend some time going over the ones that you found tricky and got wrong last time.
