GROUND FORCE MORNING

A huge Thank You to the families that helped on Ground Force morniim; the Crane. Gill, Prince, Harrison, Saetta, Rhodes, Pearson. Hall. Vleacock Fletcher and Randazzo families worked so hard laying turf, cleaning the bus. weeding the borders and moving tree minks.

Due to the hard work of the volunteers on Saturday and the Wayne Family being able to get us the turf at cost we were able to have the new play house fitted on Tuesday. We will be having an official opening after half term when the grass has had time to put down a few roots.

I will like to add a special thank you to John Murphy and Kevin Gill for removing the side canopy and for climbing up so high and taking out the panels in the big canopy ready for it to be moved during half term. I know that they will also be continuing this weekend to remove the rest of the panels.

Golden Boot - Friday - Challenge

The Golden Boot Challenge starts next week. Today we asked all of the children how they came to school, walking, riding, car sharing, and we have recorded this data on the Surrey Safer Routes to school web site.

Over the next 5 weeks we will be asking the children on Friday how they came to school and entering the data. We are challenging each class to improve and get more people walking, riding or car sharing to school.

At the end of the challenge we will present two Golden Boots; one for the class who get more people coming to school in a 'green way', and one boot for the class who have the most people coming to school in a 'green way'

Why don't you join the Walking Bus on a Friday at 8.10 am from St Johns Lye. No need to book just come along. It really is good fun

Year 1

In Year 1 this week we have been practising making our sentences better by adding juicy describing words!

How could you improve this sentence? The_______dog

ate the ________ bone. We have also been showing our

teachers and Mrs Alder just how whizzy we are in maths. And we are VERY whizzy! We are going to be learning about fractions, time, finding the difference and more than.

On Monday Sally Russell from Chertsey Museum will be visiting all the Year 1 classes to tell them about seaside holidays in the past. She will be bringing in artefacts and dressing some of the children in old knitted swimming costumes! Thank you for sending in photos of yourselves at the seaside - we enjoyed comparing them to our own experiences!

HOMEWORK CHALLENGE:

The last day of term is the Coin Race so please check your pockets and look down the back of the sofa for pennies as the inter-class rivalry is intense!

Year 2

What a very busy week in Year Two! The children have worked so hard and produced some lovely work.

This week we have been researching a special animal. The information that the children have found out will be used next week in their written work. Perhaps they can tell you about their animal and find out some more at home (see homework task below).

Please check that your child's clothes are clearly named as it is very easy for them to become lost on a hot day when everyone takes their jumpers off.

We are very short of helpers in Year Two. Please see your child's teacher if you are able to help. Thank you for your support.

The Year Two Team Homework Challenge

Can you continue the research about your special animal. Write as many White Hat facts as you can.

Dropping off and Picking up!

Dear Parents,

My name is PCSO Adam Coombs and with my colleague PCSO Sultan Khan we are the local neighbourhood officers. We have been following local residents and parents concerns about parking outside the Hermitage and Oaktree schools. You may have seen one of us recently carrying out a patrol.

Some of the areas of concern are around parking on junctions in particular the cross roads at Sutton Avenue and Gorse-wood Road. This makes it very dangerous for cars coming out of these roads and of course very dangerous for anyone using the surrounding footpaths. I must also remind parents that it is against the law to park on double yellow lines and zig zag lines along with parking within 10 metres of a junction. Failure to comply with these directions may lead to a prosecution or fixed penalty notice for obstruction or causing a danger to pedestrians and other road users.

I know having spoken to several parents that you are very concerned for the safety of the children and that is why we are looking at the current issues around parking. Parking is very limited around the school and we are aware that roads such as Birdswood Drive, Hermitage Woods Crescent and Sutton Avenue do get used for dropping off and picking up. All I would say is please consider the people who live there and try and stay for as little time as possible to allow for other parents to use the spaces.

If you would like to discuss the parking issues any further then please contact a member of the safer neighbourhood team on 0845 125 2222 Extn:39944 or email us on mailto:w_safer_wokim@surrey.pnn.police.uk Kind Regards, Knaphill and Brookwood Safer Neighbourhood team

5-a-side Football Tournament

Saturday 6th June 2009 2.00 pm—5.00 pm

Once again a whole year has flown by and our annual Parents 5-a-side Football Tournament is upon us. You have now received Application Forms, Sponsor Forms and programmes for the event. The children are always so ex : *ea about the grown ups playing football matches and it is always a lovely family occasion.

This event is organised by the school Publicity and Promotions Group. This group of governors, school staff and parents work hard promoting the school to the community. They also like to organise fun events in which parents and children can come to school and enjoy the facilities. If anyone can help with the BBQ for a 30 minute time period on either the BBQ or the other food items there is a slip at the bottom of this Newsletter to let us know. We could also ao with some general supervision help on the children's activities please let Mrs Alder know if you can help. Thanks

We need someone who would take a video on the day, some action shots of each team during the matches, the final game and the medal/cup presentation at the end. You do not have to be a professional just an enthusiastic amateur. Please can you let the office know if you can do this.

This is a family event and we will be having a BBQ, drinks and ices. Last year the team of volunteers did a gal lant job on the BBQ, helping with drinks and ices. We have booked a bouncy castle and slide and will have a number of fun activities for the children. To cover the costs of these activities the children will need to purchase an 'ACTIVITY PASS' for £2 each. This will enable the child to take part in all of the activities, as many times as they like, during the afternoon, without any money passing hands.

If you would like to purchase a child's pass please complete the form below. Please purchase your pass now tc enable us to ensure that there will be sufficient activities to ensure all of the children have fun. We are hoping everyone will come along and bring their friends. Last year was a really great afternoon.
