Year 1
It's lovely to see all your children back looking rested and fresh after the Easter holiday and we've enjoyed hearing all that they've been up to. The children are going to be finding out about the seaside this half term and exploring materials in science and art. We read the story of Shirley who had a very exciting adventure when she went to the seaside. Then we thought about what other exciting events could happen at the seaside. After that we acted out our stories and thought how we could improve them. We also wrote In maths we are exploring number sequences. To do this we have to firstly decide whether the numbers are getting bigger or smaller. Then we need to work out how much bigger or smaller they are getting - we are quite good at this! On Friday we started to investigate materials in art. The children used hand lenses to look closely at the threads and drew them. We learnt which the warp was and which the weft was! We also used simple frames to weave a variety of materials. Please may we repeat our request for cardboard tubes for science, film canisters and scrap fabric cut into strips for weaving - this can be colourful old sheets, clothes, plastic earner bags, curtains .... HOMEWORK CHALLENGE - look around your home and see if you can find different types of materials. Thank you for your support Year 1.
Year 2
Welcome back to all the Year two children and parents. We hope you all had a very Happy Easter. The children have all written a recount of a special day in their Easter holidays, which were great. In Numeracy our work has been focused on shapes. We have been looking at shapes in the outside environment, describing them and finding out whether they are symmetrical or not. Thank you for all the packets and boxes. These have been put in our Role play areas and have become part of our shops and post offices. The children are already enjoying playing in these areas, paying for goods, giving change, writing shopping lists and sending postcards, celebration cards and letters. Many of the children have come back from the holidays having become much more confident with telling the time. Thank you for all the hard work that you have done at home helping your child to learn this valuable skill. We are very short of helpers in Year Two. Please see your child's teacher if you are able to help. Thank you for your support. The Year Two Team. Homework Challenge Find an object in your garden.
