Grandparents are welcome to stay and go out with the children at playtime.
Playtime finishes at 10.20 am and the children will go back into class and
Grandparents can make their way home.

children who have applied to be part of the Oaktree Bike Team. We will be
organising trials during the Summer Term to decide on the final team and
substitutes.
The Professional Team Mascot will be Robert Hall from Ladybird.
Walking BusWe will be starting a
Walking Bus from St John's Lye during the summer term. We have 12 families
interested in joining the Walking Bus from St John's Lye. We received one or
two other slips showing interest in other areas. We will contact the people
wishing to start from other areas after the holiday to discuss options.
We will be in touch with all of the people interested in the Walking Bus
from St John's Lye to complete the relevant paperwork. Hopefully we will start
before the end of April.
Anyone else interested in joining the Walking Bus from St Johns' Lye please
contact the school office. Remember you only need to walk once a week. You can
park easily down in St Johns' Lye Car Park.

ParkingOn Monday this week a
reporter from the News and Mail spoke to me because a number of local
residents complained about the parking around the school at the last Police
Forum Meeting.
During the holiday perhaps parents may wish to think about where and how
they park and consider is it safe and considerate. You could even consider
joining the Walking Bus.
Eco Committee WWF's Earth HourIt was
great to hear so many children talking about what they did during candlelight
on Saturday. I am still wondering how the child managed who told me that he
took the candle in the shower.
It was impressive that 3,943 cities and towns in more than 88 countries
took part in WWF's Earth Hour 2009. Seventy national capitals participated,
including nine of the 10 most populated metropolises on the planet. Global
landmarks switching off included the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Empire State
Building, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Birdcage Stadium in China, the Acropolis in
Greece, the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Colosseum in Rome.
In the UK we were one of over 1400 schools who took part. 100 Local
Authorities and 700 businesses signed up, and cities and towns all over the UK
turned out lights and held special events. Landmarks that 'switched off
included Big Ben and the Palace of Westminster, Buckingham Palace, Tower
Bridge, Nelson's Column, the National Gallery and Wembley Stadium Arch in
London; the Senedd and Millennium Stadium in Cardiff; the entire Quayside in
Newcastle; Stormont, City Hall and the Wheel in Belfast, the Clifton
Suspension Bridge in Bristol and Edinburgh Castle.
All of our children have received a certificate for their support.

BIKE CLUB MEETING
Calling all Children
Friday 24th April
Acorn Centre
We will be starting the Bike Club again after the holiday, so make sure
that during the holiday all those bikes and scooters get a good clean and are
in good working condition.
So what is Bike Club? The children become members of the club and receive a
Bike Club tabard, membership card and Bike Bonus Card . They ride a bike or
scooter to school. They will attend meetings to discuss safety and there will
be an opportunity to undertake some very basic safe riding skills training.
Every day the children ride to school they receive a stamp on their Bonus
Card. At the end of the term we have a prize draw for children who have
travelled to school for 80% of the available time.
If you child is interested they need to attend the Bike Club meeting.

Year 1This week we have had a
wonderful time discovering the story of Easter and making a class book with
all our pictures and writing. We have also been looking around the playground
finding signs of new life such as leaf buds and blossom on trees.
On Wednesday, as part of a science investigation into Healthy Eating, we
had a Cadbury's creme egg eating contest. Simon in Ladybird class ate 6 but
most of us only managed 2 or 3!
The children worked very hard to learn songs and poems for the
grandparents' festival. We had a "dress" rehearsal in front of a Year 2 class
so that we could do our best for our grandparents. We are looking forward to
performing tomorrow - and hope the grandparents enjoy their time!
Can you collect the cardboard tubes from kitchen and toilet rolls and film
canisters and bring to school when we return.
HOMEWORK CHALLENGE
Find out what REALLY happened on March 32nd!
Year 1 Team
Year 2We hope all the
grandparents enjoyed their time in school today. We all certainly enjoyed
having them and showing them our work!!
The children have been writing some exciting Easter stories. They have
fantastic imaginations!
In Numeracy our work has been on organising information using Carrol
diagrams and block graphs. Some of the children have now become very confident
telling the time but this would be a really valuable skill to concentrate on
during the holidays.
Next term we will be investigating 3D shape, so please can you collect
boxes for us and bring into school on the first day of term.
Please, please, please do come and see our display on how to be a sailor in
the Entrance Hall. The children have all made their own information booklets
which can be found in their own class's treasure chest. They really are
interesting!
Helpers are always welcome in Year Two. Please see your child's teacher if
you are able to help. Thank you for your support.
The Year Two Team
