Grandparents Festival Next Week
We are looking forward to welcoming Grandparents to the school on the last
morning of term, Friday 3rd April at 9 am.
Grandparents are welcome to stay and go out with the children at playtime.
Playtime finishes at 10.20 am and the children will go back into class and
Grandparents can make their way home.
Eco Committee WWF's Earth HourThis week
the children have been completing a Class Challenge Sheet to support WWF's
Earth Hour.
On Saturday 28 March 2009 at 8.30pm, people, businesses and iconic
buildings around the world will switch off their lights for an hour - WWF's
Earth Hour. Why don't you join them for one hour between 8.30pm and 9.30pm
turn off the lights in your home as a reminder to the powers that be that they
should be protecting our world. Last year whole cities around the world turned
off the lights which was a powerful message to world leaders to take action to
tackle climate change.
Obviously the children will not be in school on Saturday so every class has
completed their own Challenge Sheet this week to take action to tackle climate
change by making sure every day they focus on one of our Eco Checks, turning
off lights, re-using and recycling paper, turning off taps, closing doors,
taking food to the compost bin. These are only small actions but a lot of
small actions count.
LOST PROPERTYPLEASE,
please, please check the lost property stand outside the Eco Lobby! All items
on this stand are not named. PLEASE can you check your child's clothes this
week and ensure that their name is clearly visible so that we can return lost
property immediately.

Spring Fair
Thank you for all your support at the Spring Fair. The children were delighted
to raise £1126 towards the new classroom.
Rabbit Class won the most Jam Jars competition. In total we had nearly 400
jars for sale on the day.
Thank you once again for joining in so enthusiastically.
We are looking for an Oaktree Bike Race Team
The Tour Series is coming to Woking on the 2nd June 2009. This will involve
ten teams of five riders taking part in the event over a number of 1.5
kilometre laps; Britain's top ten domestic teams are all participating, with
special guest stars.
As part of this carnival style event schools with active cyclists and
cycling clubs have been asked to take part in the event. Each school will be
allocated a professional cycle team and asked to support them through the
event. Every cycling club school with Infant age pupils are asked to nominate
one individual to be a team mascot for the day. They will be with the team
captain at the start of the event, in a similar fashion to football club
mascots. If your child would be interested in being our mascot please
complete the form overleaf and return to the school no later than Wednesday
1st April. We will put all the slips in a hat and the name pulled out will
be our mascot.
There are several events that children can take part in: Parent and
Child Race -
1. Small tricycles/ bikes with adult steering attachments/poles- for those
too young to cycle alone-completion of a Go ride circuit with cones etc
2. Trailer Bike Race- for those in reception to year 2 wanting to cycle
with an adult - two laps of the 1.5km course
Infant Aged Pupils- Reception to Year 2
1 lap each, for a team of four (relay style) - prizes will be awarded to
the fastest school team, in addition to the fastest cyclist.
The parent and child race information will be coming out soon. We would
like to put forward an Oaktree Cycle Team for this event in the schools
section. If your child is interested in being part of the team please
complete the form overleaf and return to the school office.

Year 1This week in Year 1 we have been reading,
writing and learning poems - one of which we will be sharing with our
grandparents next week.
In maths we have been continuing our work with tens and units - discovering
how much easier it is to add and subtract now! We have used some of the money
from the Spring Fair to practise ways of making lOp, 20p and 50p.
In PE lessons the children are sometimes playing tag rugby on the field.
For this they need a tracksuit top and bottoms. They also need a pair of
trainers as it can be too slippery for plimsolls.
Next week we will be finding out about the Easter story and some of the
symbols associated with it.
HOMEWORK CHALLENGE - to consolidate our work on money, how many ways can
you make 20p, 50p or £1?
Year 2The children have been considering what
makes an exciting middle in a story. They had a go at writing an exciting
middle of their own and the teachers are really pleased with the results. They
have some fantastic ideas!!
In Numeracy our work is still dividing and multiplying. Please can the
children practice their tables during the holidays. It really is valuable and
will help them with this work!
We look forward to seeing all the grandparents next week and sharing our
work with them. The children are practising their songs and poems and
hopefully will be word perfect by the day.
Please, please, please do come and see our display on how to be a sailor in
the Entrance Hall. The children have all made their own information booklets
which can be found in their own class's treasure chest. They really are
interesting!
Helpers are always welcome in Year Two. Please see your child's teacher if
you are able to help. Thank you for your support.
Homework Challenge
Please practise learning to tell the time. This skill will
help you throughout your life.
The Year Two Team.
