Internet Safety

As you are aware at the Oaktree School we teach the children how to use the internet safely.

You may be interested in a leaflet produced to inform parents and carers how children are using ICT in school; how using ICT in the home can help children to learn; how children can use the internet safely at home and where parents may access further information.

Further details may be found at www.kented.org.uk/ngfl/ict/safety.htm

THANK YOU

Although the snow looked lovely and we are sure the children enjoyed playing out in it on Monday and Tuesday, it has posed one or two challenges.

Thank you for your support and patience when bringing and collecting your children. We are delighted that all of our teachers were able to get into school and even stayed late on Wednesday evening for Parent Consultations.

One or two parents have been parking even more dangerously during the bad weather. Everyone finds the bad weather challenging but please think before you park. KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE.

Year 2

Well snow stopped Oaktree, at least for a couple of days. Now we are very busy catching up and working hard. The children are working on fractions which they do find quite difficult. If you could use these as much as possible at home it will be very useful. If the shops are 4 miles away for example, how far would they have gone at the half-way point? How about when they were a quarter the way there? Or three quarters? No doubt you have lots more ideas.

Thank you for all the boxes you have sent in for the cannons. We urgently need kitchen rolls and would be grateful for any you are able to collect.

In Literacy next week we will be continuing our work making an information booklet about "How to be a sailor". These are beginning to look great.

It was lovely seeing so many of you on Wednesday evening and very useful. We are looking forward to next Tuesday when the second parent consultations takes place. If you have not signed up, there are still one or two spaces. Thank you for your support. The Year Two Team.

Homework Challenge

Can you draw a circle ( draw round a cup or basin ). Now divide it in half. Can you divide it in quarters? Try now with a square and a rectangle.

The Oaktree School is expecting a few new arrivals in the summer.

- A brand new classroom.

- A covered all weather play area.

- Toilet facilities for sporting and field events.

- A covered outside lesson area.

- Do you think you can help our build team?

- Do you work for or know of a construction company that may want to tender?

- Do you know a Building Regulation draughtsman or a reusable energy consultant?

If you think you can help us or have any information that would benefit the building please contact Mrs Alder or the office. Many thanks.

Please take a look at the new proposals, if you have any comments please let us know

Year 1

My goodness, what a topsy-turvy week we have had - thick thick snow and only 3 days at school! Those 3 days have been packed full of science as the children have learnt about light and dark. Sadly we decided to cancel the trip to the Look Out but instead we have made corners of the school into dark places where we discovered that shiny things don't shine in the dark!

It was lovely to see so many of you at parent's evening on Wednesday. If you were unable to make it we will send you a slip with an alternative time to discuss your child's progress.

We will start next week by finishing our science topic before carrying on with our sculptures - the children made fantastic clay animals and wire and paper people in a variety of poses! Homework challenge:

If you have the chance perhaps you could explore ice and snow sculptures online and bring in some pictures.

Contact Information Required

The recent bad weather and school closure has highlighted the requirement for speedy and accurate communication between the school and the children's parents and carers.

To improve this communication, we will be implementing a broadcast system which will use text messages and/or e-mail to notify you of important issues affecting your children and the school such as the weather or a school trip being delayed.

In order to do this, we are asking all parents and carers to confirm the telephone number they would like us to use as the main contact and/or an e-mail address so that we have accurate information. Please note that text messages can still be sent to fixed line phones although mobiles would always be the preferred choice.

Please complete the details clearly below and return to school as soon as possible. It is important that you also tick the consent box and sign below.
