Parent Consultation Appointment Lists

Have you signed up for an appointment for Parent Consultation Evening? The lists are in the Eco Lobby for Years 1 and 2 and on Reception class doors.

The Really Good School Dinner

Thank you so much for all the 10p's that were donated for this event. Well done to Hedgehog Class for raising the most money with £7.70. The total collected was £30. If every school raises the same amount we will make such a difference.

HOPA News

At the HOPA meeting earlier this week, an allocation of £2,500 each was made to Oaktree and Hermitage schools.

At the present time we are saving our allocation of money toward purchasing new equipment for the new classroom that we are planning to build.

Everyone was delighted by the amount of support that was received on the day of the Christmas Fair and the analysis of the takings showed that more people than ever attended the Fair.

The committee have planned some lovely events for the next 6 months and would welcome any support that you can give them. The money raised makes such a difference to the education of our children.

Night Adventure

It was lovely to see so many people enjoying the Night Adventure. We raised £414.55. We hope that mums and dads will have fun with their children making their gardens friendly to nocturnal animals. If you were unable to come to the Night Adventure and you would like ensure that you attract nocturnal creatures to your garden just pick up a leaflet in the Eco Lobby.

As you know we usually sponsor an endangered species with a small part of the money that we raise during the Night Adventure. This year we are supporting the work of the 'Sea Watch Foundation' which is a conservation group to ensure that we can enjoy seeing dolphins around the coast of England. By adopting one of these dolphins we will be helping to protect all UK dolphins, as well as helping raise awareness of the dangers they face, and therefore stop these beautiful animals from suffering anymore."

In assembly today the children found out about the UK dolphins and then in class they voted for the dolphin they wished to adopt. The dolphin with the most votes was Nic Nic and her baby Splash. Every month we "will be tracking their progress and learning more about them. Perhaps during the summer the children may see their Dolphin if they go to Cardigan Bay in Wales.

New Classroom

When you come to Parent Consultations during the next two weeks please look at our plans for our new classroom. The classroom will be attached to Robin Class and therefore enable all three Foundation Classes to be in the same unit. We will then move Magpie Class into Squirrel Class and Owl Class into Magpie Class.

Plans will be submitted to the Planning Department next week.

Year 1

This week the children in Year 1 have been immersed in works of sculpture - from the Angel of the North to Michelangelo's David. We drew them, shared what we liked about them and our feelings and considered how we might improve them. Some of us think the Angel would be better if it were coloured - Antony Gormley, take note!

We shall be stepping out of the shadows next week as we focus upon science week and Year One is investigating ight and dark. If possible can everyone bring a named working torch to help with our exploration?

Thank you for sending in flattened cereal boxes and newspaper. For the week beginning 9th February, when we are continuing our sculpture topic, could we ask you to send in any largish, thick cardboard boxes?

Homework challenge'. Look out of a window in the day and when it's dark - what differences can you see?

Year 2

What an exciting day today was. No doubt your child will be telling you about all they have seen and learnt about tonight.

The children are working hard on their cannons. Some of these will shortly be on display just inside the Acorn Centre, so come and have a look when you are passing. Certainly the children's designs look very exciting.

In Literacy next week we will be continuing our work making an information booklet about "How to be a sailor".

In Maths we will be starting learning about division and fractions. As you can see below the homework challenge is linked to this work.

Thank you for your support.                                             The Year Two Team.

Homework Challenge

Can you work out half of your mum's spoons in the drawer? What would a quarter be? Now have a go with your favourite toys in your box.
