THE OAKTREE SCHOOL

wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Christmas Events

The children have really enjoyed all of the Christmas festivities. The Pantomime, Christmas lunch, Christmas party, Christmas Carol Service and of course lots and lots of performances of Cinderella were enjoyed by the children.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone for supporting the children through this busy time, especially those people who helped with the Christmas events, and always help throughout the term.

At the Christmas Carol Service we raised £79.19 for Children in Need. Thank You.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

It was a pleasure to see such smart children walking to church on Thursday. Thank you for ensuring that the children wear the correct uniform.

May we remind parents when they are buying new school trousers that our school colour is grey. All girls with long hair must wear their hair tied up at all times.

Please check that items of uniform are labelled with your child's name. It is so much easier to return lost property to it's owner when uniform is labelled.

Thank you for your support.

School Lunches

The cost of school meals for the Spring Term will be:

Weekly £9.00

Half term £50.40 (Jan-Feb)

Half term £54.40 (Feb-Mar)

DON'T FORGET TO CHECK FOR OIR LITTLE FRIENDS THE HEAD LICE DURING THE HOLIDAY

Year 1

Wow! What a term! It seems like only yesterday that we all met new friends and teachers in our classes. We've done so much since then and we've had such fun!

This week we've been busy doing all sorts of Christmas activities. We enjoyed eating Christmas lunch with our teachers, had a lovely time at the pantomime and wore the hats we made on Christmas Craft Day to our Christmas Party! We hope you enjoyed the Carol Service at St Johns Church.

After Christmas we're looking forward to learning about Noah's Ark and Jewish festivals. We'll all need two cardboard rolls each (kitchen rolls or old wrapping paper tubes would be best!), so can you make sure to hold on to them?

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas and thanks to all of you who have helped us!

The Year 1 Team

Reception

We are delighted with how well the children have all settled into full-time school this week! What a busy week it has been! The children found the coach trip and theatre visit exciting and also the party afterwards. They enjoyed the visit to Father Christmas and sang him 'We wish you a Merry Christmas'. We were very impressed with the children's singing at the church on Thursday. They have all been so well behaved this week and have blossomed over the term! Help from you

In the first week back we are converting our role play into a book and toy shop. Please can you help your child to sort out any books or toys that they no longer want and bring them in to sell in our shop. The items need to be suitable for the Reception age group and they will be sold for 10p. Please could you send in a 10p coin in a named envelope or purse for your child to buy a book or a toy from the shop. The money we raise will be used to buy new role play resources for the classroom. Thank you very much for all of your help and support over the term. We look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.

Have a lovely Christmas and enjoy the holidays! Reception Team

Year 2

We wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

A big thank you to all of the parents that helped at the party, pantomime and walking to the church. Thank you also for the food sent in for the party. We all had a super time. The children also enjoyed the Year Two Team's performance of Jack and the Beanstalk. We have not been talent spotted yet but it is rumoured that we may be appearing in "Has Oak-tree Got Talent". Who knows!

The children now have their new spellings which are linked to the phonics work covered in their groups. We have also included frequently occurring words that it is important that the children learn to spell.

During the first week back the children will be writing about their favourite part of the school holiday. We will be sending home the roaming rabbits, flying foxes and orbiting owls. Writing in their mascots diary about their special Christmas day will help with their writing work. Perhaps your child could also make a memory book or diary if they are keen which would be a great support

On the first week back in Maths we will be working with ordinal numbers. Perhaps you could talk a to them about first, second third etc over Christmas when appropriate ( a traffic jam perhaps!).

Thank you for your continued help and support.
