Wind Turbine for Lilly

Thank you so much to everyone who raised money at the Five-a-side-Football competition in the summer.

As you know some parents can put in bids for community projects or charities with their companies. We are delighted that one of our parents has done this for us and we now have the extra £500 that we need for our wind turbine

We will purchase a wind turbine after Christmas and hopefully be able to use those January and February winds to produce lights and heat for the bus.

Thank you for your support.

Changes to Surrey's School Admissions Policy - September 2010

Your views wanted

Surrey County Council is consulting with parents on the proposed admission arrangements for September 2010.

What are the proposed changes?

There are no proposed changes to the county-wide admission arrangements that operated across the county for the 2009 admissions process. However, there are changes proposed for Oxted School and for infant and junior schools on shared / adjoining sites. Details of the proposed policy are available at www.surreycc.gov.uk/schooladmissionconsultation

How can I respond to the consultation?

The consultation on these proposals is being held from 12 November 2008 -9 Januan 2009. If you would like to take part, there is a response form available on the Surrey County Council website www.surreycc.gov.uk/schooladmissionconsultation where you can register your comments. Alternatively contact the Council's Contact Centre on Tel 08456 009 009 for a hard-copy response form.

What happens next?

The closing date for the consultation is 9 January 2009. Responses will be collated and presented to the Council's decision-making Executive on 3 March 2009 so arrangements for 2010 can be decided upon. This decision will need to be agreed by the County Council as a whole on 24 March 2009 and then submitted to the Department for Children, Schools and Families in April 2009.

Christmas Reading Challenge

So how many books did your child read this term? Now is the time to count up all the presents that your child has coloured in on their challenge chart and bring it back to school on Monday 15th December. There will be three certificates awarded Bronze up to 20 books read, Silver up to 40 books read and Gold over 40 books read.

Year 1

We hope you enjoyed our performance of Cinderella! Thank you so very much for providing costumes and for being excellent audiences, joining-in and applauding in all the right places! Back-stage reading and writing Fairy Stories continued throughout and we are now all looking forward to our Christmas celebrations next week.

Please let our "Link-Mums" know if you can help with the party food on Wednesday and/or the walk to the Church for our Carol Service on Thursday - this is a "service" so it is a good chance for you to join in and sing the well known Carols!

With all the Artwork that has been going on, we have used up our stock of newspaper. Please can you send some in - removing any particularly unsuitable pages if need be! Thank you.

Also please remember that a named carrier-bag or labelled re-usable bag will be useful for your child on the last day of term to carry home the bits and pieces they have made.

Art Club

There is no Art Club on Thursday 18th December.

Year 2

We hope that you enjoyed our pantomime as much as we enjoyed performing it. It was great fun!

We are now coming towards the final week and what an exciting week it is planned to be. A party, pantomime and church service all feature as well as the Year Two team performing their own favourite Fairy Story to the Year Two children. Oh yes they will. Oh no they won't.

We will be having group reading with your child on Monday and then collecting the Home readers in for the Christmas period. Thank you for all the support that you have given this term. Please encourage your child to still read as much as possible over the Christmas period whether it is Christmas cards, road signs or instructions for a new game.

Wednesday the 17th is our Christmas Party. Please let your child's teacher know if you are able to help. We will need parents to come and lay the food out at lunchtime, help during the party and also to clear up while the children are playing games. We will also need parents to walk down with us to the church on Thursday 18th at about 9.30am. Again please speak to your child's teacher.

We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you for your continued help and support.

The Year Two Team.

Maths Challenge

How many Christmas cards have you got? Estimate first and then count. If you doubled that number how many would you have then? Can you share the cards between the members of your family? How many has each member got?

Internet Safety

The children in Year one have been having lessons on how to use the internet safely. This work will be extended to Year two after Christmas. We have been using material supplied by the website www.thinkuknow.co.uk which centres around the cartoon character Hector and his friends. This website advises the following in their Parents Fact Sheet:

" Know what your children are doing online and who they are talking to. Ask them to teach you to use any applications you have never used. Keeping the computer in a family room means that you can share your child's online experience . . . Help your children to learn that they should never give out personal details to online friends".

Further details can be found on the above website.
